Frequently Asked Questions

What are the distances for the race?
The exact distances cannot be disclosed (and will be different depending on the route you choose), but expect to trek/run 4-8 miles and bike ~15 miles.
Is this race friendly for beginners?
Yes. This race is designed for all skill levels, however some map and compass skills will be necessary. Check out the map and compass classes for a refresher.
What kind of map and compass skills are necessary?
You will need to be familiar with using a topographical map, using the compass to shoot an azimuth, and plotting of UTM coordinates is highly encouraged (but not required). These skills will all be discussed in the map and compass classes.
I've done some 5/10 K races and sprint triathlons, can I complete this race?
Yes. The race is designed so that most individuals with average fitness level can complete the mandatory sections.
Do we need to carry the mandatory gear throughout the whole race?
All mandatory gear (with the exception of the bike, helmet, and bike-related tools) need to be carried at all times throughout the race. Penalties will be assigned to teams without mandatory gear.
How will places be determined?
Places will be assigned by points then time. This means a team with less checkpoints than you cannot beat you as long as you finish before the cutoff time. Tied points will be broken by finish time. Prize groupings (2/3-person, coed/all-male/all female) and how deep prizes go will be determined from the final number of teams in each category.
Can kids do the race?
Kids over the age of 14 can participate with a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
